There is an important leap between being inclusive and being an educator or social worker. Not only economic, but also responsibility. That was what led me to decide to study. I looked for a university and UNIR was the one that suited me best. It allowed me to continue with my work in the juvenile center as an integrator and I could combine it with my degree because I could watch the classes online at any time. During the second year of my degree, Kuwait Phone Number List an old colleague called me and told me that they were going to open a new center in Bilbao, near my home. I started working in childhood and immigration, with MENAS (unaccompanied foreign minors).
You finish the degree and start your TFG. How did this idea come about?
I realized that when they turned 18, many of their rights and obligations changed. I saw how many went to the streets to sleep in sacks. Meanwhile, my colleagues from the elderly and elderly area were looking for help, because there were older people who needed accompaniment. I thought it was a good idea for them to help each other, for the kids to have a roof to sleep in and the grandparents not to be alone. In the end, with my TFG I have managed to get these young people to take care of their grandparents, because socially one plus one is sometimes seven. This is how the project went ahead.
How is the relationship between young immigrants and grandparents?
We have managed to ensure that the kids – we see some of them in the picture – are in homes and can continue their studies while collaborating with their grandparents. During the day they do social support tasks, they go shopping for them and help them with whatever they need. They are also available if any of the older people need help at night. Since November, due to the fact that the number of infections by COVID-19 has increased in the Basque Country, the project has been stopped. Young people study in schools and socialize on the street, so it is preferable for the moment that they do not have direct contact with the elderly. Hopefully this situation will last a short time and everything will return to normal.
